Crispy Tandoori Fish Bites

I had some leftover Tilapia (from cooking a curry for my mother in law) that I wanted to use up, so threw these Crispy Tandoori Fish Bites together on the spot, the result was delicious! The ingredients make enough batter for 2 Tilapia fillets, you can multiply the quantities if you want to make more. You can also opt to use any other white fish if you prefer. Crispy Tandoori Fish Bites are perfect and easy snacks for holiday entertaining and one to make note of for Ramadan/iftar/Eid.

Serves 3

You will need: for Crispy Tandoori Fish Bites

2 Tilapia fillets
3 tsp rice flour
1 tsp plain flour
1 tsp Rajah tandoori powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/3 tsp salt
cold water as needed

Method:

1. Cut the Tilapia fillets into small bite size cubes and dry on paper towel.

2. Measure the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix. Add enough cold water to make a loose but not too runny batter, whisk until smooth and lump free.

3. Coat the fish pieces in batter and deep fry till golden brown on both sides (about 2 – 3 minutes either side). Drain on kitchen towel and serve with your favourite dipping sauce!

Salaams I’m having a dawat for my sister in law’s tomorrow and wanted to make something different and this sounds perfect! I was just wondering if there is anything else I could use instead of rice flour? I don’t have any and honestly I’ve never used it before.

You could try using cornflour in its place but not sure how it would turn out, maybe you can try and keep me posted. 🙂 x

Do I really need rice flour? Can I just use 4 tsp of flour instead?
I don’t have rice flour and to be honest never use it so I don’t want to buy it and let it go to waste

The rice flour is what makes this crispy, you can make it using plain flour it just won’t be as crispy though. x
