Af’s Filet-O-Fish

Af’s Filet-O-Fish, perfect for afternoon tea!

Growing up I used to love eating the McDonalds Filet-O-Fish, but concerns over whether the ingredients were halal and what oil they fry the fish in meant that I have stopped eating at McDonalds for a long time now. Instead I opt to make this for my kids and myself and we LOVE IT!

The tartare sauce is my own recipe which I’ve been making for years, a very simple cheat which can easily be thrown together at home whenever you crave fast food. You don’t need to add lettuce to your burger but we like a bit of salad, it makes us feel a little less guilty, lol!

I use 2 fish fingers when I make this for afternoon tea, when I make it for dinner I use 3 fish fingers to make the burgers a little more substantial. However many fish fingers you use, I hope this is totally satisfying!

Serves – 6

You will need: for Af’s Filet-O-Fish

6 burger bun (I love using Warburtons buns or brioche buns)
12 fish fingers
3 sweet pickled gherkins
2 tsp capers
5 – 6 tbsp mayonnaise
iceberg lettuce (optional)
6 cheese slices

Method:

Start by cooking the fish fingers, I like to grill my fish fingers.

Prepare the tartare sauce by finely dicing 3 sweet pickled gherkins….

….and finely chop 2 tsp of capers. If you don’t like capers you can leave them out.

Slice some iceberg lettuce if you are using this.

Measure 5 – 6 tbsp of mayonnaise in a clean bowl and add the chopped gherkins and capers, mix to combine, leave to one side till needed.

Once the fish fingers are cooked, begin to assemble the burgers.

Place the cheese slices on the bottom of the buns, the 2 cooked fish fingers on top, then add some lettuce (if you are using this).

Add the tartare sauce to the top of the bun and then place onto the bottom half, et voila, you have Afs Filet-O-Fish!

I made this the other day after staring at the recipe for a good month or so!

Whilst my sister said “why don’t you just buy tartar sauce” – I never regretted making it following your recipe!

Obviously it will never be a true McDonald’s fillet – but nevertheless it tasted great and was fun To make!

Thank you for sharing this xx
